How to Use

Step 1: Upload Your Old URLs

Click the upload area under “Upload Old Site URLs” and select your file. Accepted formats are CSV and plain text (.txt). One URL per line, or a CSV with URLs in any column — the tool detects them automatically.

 

Step 2: Upload Your New URLs

Repeat the process for your new URL list. This is typically exported from your new site’s sitemap, CMS, or crawl tool.

 

Step 3: Apply Filters (Optional)

Use the regex filter field to exclude URL patterns you don’t need to map, for example:

  • /tag/ to exclude tag archive pages

  • \? to exclude URLs with query parameters

  • /page/[0-9] to exclude pagination

 

Step 4: Run the Matching Algorithm

Click Match URLs. The tool compares each old URL against the full list of new URLs and finds the closest match based on path similarity and slug patterns.

 

Step 5: Review the Results

The results table shows each old URL, its matched new URL, and a confidence score. Review any low-confidence matches manually — these are the ones most likely to need human judgement.

 

Step 6: Download Your Redirect Map

Click Download Matched URLs to export a CSV containing your complete redirect mapping, ready to hand directly to a developer to implement as 301 redirects.

 

Additional Notes

  • The matching algorithm works on URL path similarity. It is most accurate when old and new URLs share common words, slugs, or structures.

  • Always implement redirects as 301 (permanent) rather than 302 (temporary) to preserve link equity.

  • After migration, use Google Search Console to monitor for 404 errors and confirm redirects are resolving correctly.

  • For very large URL lists (10,000+ URLs), the matching process may take a few moments. Do not close the tab while processing.

How accurate is the URL matching?

Accuracy depends on how similar your old and new URL structures are. If you’ve maintained consistent slugs, matches will be near-perfect. If URLs have changed significantly, expect more manual review.

 

What file format should my URL lists be in?

CSV or plain text. URLs should be one per line. If using a CSV with multiple columns, the tool will automatically detect which column contains the URLs.

 

What’s a good confidence score?

Matches scoring above 80% are generally reliable. Anything below 60% should be manually reviewed and corrected before implementation.

 

Should I redirect every old URL?

Prioritise URLs that have inbound links, organic traffic, or are indexed in Google. Low-traffic, unlinked pages are lower priority — though a catch-all redirect rule can handle them as a fallback.

 

Is my data saved or shared?

No — all processing happens in your browser. We don’t store or transmit your URL data.
