Internal links are the quickest SEO win

Internal linking is the one lever that costs nothing, needs no outreach, no new content and no developer, and it works on pages you already have. Which is exactly why it gets skipped. There is no obvious moment when someone decides to review internal links, so nobody ever does.

Meanwhile the problem quietly compounds. Every new page you publish mentions subjects covered elsewhere on your site, and almost none of those mentions become links. Two years of content later you have hundreds of missed connections and a handful of important pages that nothing points to.

This tool finds them. It reads up to 300 of your pages, works out what each one is about, and shows you where one page discusses another page's subject in its copy without linking to it.

Help Google and AI reach every page on your site

Unlinked mentions

The main event. A page on your site writes about a subject you have a dedicated page for, but never links to it. You get the page to edit, the page to link to, the exact sentence containing the mention, and the anchor text to use. It is close to a copy and paste job for whoever owns the site.

Orphan pages

Pages nothing on your site links to. Search engines find them slowly if at all, and AI crawlers may never reach them. These are usually pages that were published, linked from a campaign, and then quietly forgotten.

Pages with the fewest in-copy links

Your least supported pages, ranked by links inside content rather than links in the menu. If something commercially important is near the top of that list, you have found where to point your next round of links.

Why the findings are usable

Most link tools give you a spreadsheet of URL pairs and leave you to work out what to do. This one gives you the evidence.

It quotes the sentence. You can see the mention in context and judge in two seconds whether the link makes sense, rather than opening the page and hunting for it.

It tells your menu apart from your content. A link in the main navigation proves a page is reachable, but tells search engines almost nothing about what it relates to. Menu links still count towards whether a page is orphaned, but only links inside page copy count as real topical support, which is what internal linking is actually for.

It ignores your blog listing pages, tag archives and author pages, along with team, careers and policy pages. They generate enormous noise and no commercial value.

It filters out link lists. Staff directories and menu blocks technically contain the words, but suggesting a link inside one is useless. Only genuine prose is offered as evidence.

Who it is for

Anyone with more than about thirty pages. Below that you can hold the whole site in your head. Above it, opportunities hide in plain sight.

Agencies and consultants, as a fast, concrete deliverable. Running this before a first meeting gives you specific recommendations about the prospect's own site, which beats a generic audit slide every time.

Content teams publishing regularly. Run it monthly and link each new article into the pages it should support.

Anyone who has migrated a site. Migrations orphan pages more than anything else, and orphaned pages are invisible until someone looks.

How to use the results

Start with orphans if any appear. A page nothing links to is barely part of your site as far as search engines are concerned, and one link fixes it.

Then work down the unlinked mentions, but apply judgement rather than adding all of them. A link is worth adding when it genuinely helps the reader get to the next thing they want. Links added purely for SEO read as exactly that, and they clutter the page for everyone.

Watch which pages appear repeatedly as link targets. If one page keeps coming up, that is your site telling you which subject it revolves around, which is useful for planning far beyond internal links.

Finally, check the in-copy links list against your commercial priorities. A money page sitting on zero in-content links is being carried entirely by your navigation, and that is a weak position.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything?

No. The tool reads your published pages the way a search engine does. No signup, no tracking code, no access to your analytics.

How many pages does it read?

Up to 300 in a single pass, taken from your sitemap, which covers most sites completely. Larger sites get their first 300 commercial pages analysed, and the report says so rather than pretending it saw everything.

Why are no orphan pages shown for my site?

Either you have none, or your site is larger than 300 commercial pages. A page can only honestly be called an orphan when every page has been checked, so beyond that size we report the least-linked pages instead of guessing.

Does it count links in my menu and footer?

For working out whether a page is orphaned, yes: a menu link does make a page reachable. For everything else, no. Links that appear on every page carry no topical signal, so the opportunities and the rankings are based on links inside page content only.

Will it suggest links I already have?

No. If the page already links to the target from its copy, the suggestion is dropped. You may still see a suggestion for a page that is in your navigation, and that is deliberate: a link inside relevant content is worth considerably more than the same link in a menu.

Should I add every link it finds?

No, and any tool that tells you to is wrong. Add the links that help a reader get somewhere useful. Skip the ones that would read as stuffed. The tool finds candidates; you make the call.

Is it really free?

Yes. It is one of a suite of free SEO tools we build and maintain. No signup, no usage limits, no upsell in the results.

Found the gaps? We can close them

A list of links is a to-do list. Turning it into a site structure that consistently pushes authority to the pages that earn money is the part that takes judgement and time.

How do you actually measure AI visibility?

We start by defining a representative set of commercially relevant prompts and buyer queries around your products, services and market. These become the benchmark for ongoing AI visibility tracking, reported in a live dashboard alongside your traditional organic performance instead of a one-off audit.

The dashboard tracks AI Overview Presence (how often Google's AI Overview cites you across that keyword set), AI Brand Mentions (how often ChatGPT names you directly), and AI Search Opportunity (keywords you already rank for but aren't yet cited on –– the fastest-moving target).

Underneath that sits your actual citation footprint: which of your pages AI systems are pulling from, broken down by content type, with real example answers showing exactly what was asked and what got cited.

Every keyword is checked head-to-head against named competitors, so it's clear not just whether you're showing up, but whether a rival is showing up instead. Because generated answers can change considerably over time, we focus on trends across a consistent query set rather than individual responses.

You can see a live example, with sample data, at reports.growthack.io/demo/

What does an AI Search Visibility engagement actually include?

We begin by establishing a baseline of your existing AI visibility and identifying the topics, prompts and competitors that matter commercially.

From there, we assess and audit the signals influencing that visibility across technical architecture, entities, structured data, content and third-party authority. Recommendations are prioritised according to the gaps identified rather than applying a generic GEO checklist.

For ongoing engagements, we then monitor the same query set over time, compare your visibility against competitors and report AI performance alongside organic search and commercial KPIs.

This creates a repeatable process:

Benchmark → diagnose → prioritise → implement → monitor → improve.

Can I check my own AI visibility before talking to you?

Yes. Our free AI Visibility Checker provides an initial benchmark of how your brand appears within AI-powered search experiences.

You can also use our AI Overviews Share of Voice tool to assess visibility within Google's AI-generated results and compare your presence against competitors.

These tools provide a useful starting point. Client reporting goes further by tracking a defined set of commercially relevant queries consistently over time.

Is AI search reducing organic traffic, and how do you account for that?

AI-generated answers can reduce clicks for some searches because users increasingly receive information without visiting a website. That makes click volume alone an increasingly incomplete measure of organic performance.

Our reporting therefore considers search visibility, AI visibility, qualified traffic and commercial outcomes together. The objective isn't simply to maximise clicks. It's to understand whether your brand is being discovered by the right audiences and whether organic and AI search are contributing to demand, conversions and revenue.

This also means we don't interpret declining informational clicks in isolation if visibility and commercial performance tell a different story.

Do you guarantee AI visibility or citations?

No. No credible agency can guarantee rankings, AI citations or inclusion within a particular generated response.

AI results are dynamic and ultimately controlled by the platforms producing them.

What we do guarantee is clear strategy, honest advice and execution based on evidence. We establish a measurable baseline, identify the areas where your visibility can realistically be improved and monitor performance over time.

What makes a brand more likely to appear in AI search results?

There isn't a single GEO ranking factor.

AI visibility is influenced by a combination of signals including technically accessible content, clear brand and entity information, topical relevance, structured information and credible third-party references.

We therefore look for gaps across your website and wider digital footprint rather than simply optimising individual pages for ChatGPT. Our Technical Architecture and Authority Building systems address two important parts of that wider picture.

Which AI platforms do you track?

We monitor visibility across major AI-powered discovery platforms including ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity.

Rather than treating every platform equally, reporting focuses on the platforms and query types most relevant to your audience. The monitoring set can also evolve as AI search behaviour changes and new platforms gain meaningful adoption.

How is AI Search Visibility different from traditional SEO?

Traditional SEO primarily measures how webpages perform within search engines through metrics such as rankings, impressions, clicks and organic conversions.

AI Search Visibility adds another layer: whether your brand appears within generated answers, how frequently it appears compared with competitors and which sources AI systems use when forming those answers.

The disciplines overlap heavily. Strong technical SEO, useful content and established brand authority remain important foundations for AI visibility. This is why we treat AI search as part of our Beyond SEO® approach rather than as a replacement for SEO.

What is AI Search Visibility (or GEO)?

AI Search Visibility measures how visible a brand is within AI-powered search experiences such as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity.

Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) describes the work involved in improving that visibility. Rather than focusing solely on where an individual webpage ranks, we look at whether AI systems understand, mention, cite or recommend your brand for commercially relevant topics and buyer queries.
